I just had a home inspection with Chuck, and he was great. He was very thorough and explained everything clearly as he went through the house. He answered all my questions, pointed out things I wouldn't have noticed, and even offered to look up additional info afterward. He made the process easy to understand and much less stressful. I'd definitely recommend Chuck to anyone buying a home.

Chuck is great to work with. He's inspected two houses my husband and I have offered on and his report saved us from investing in a home with serious water problems in the basement, and helped us feel reassured about the second home we offered on. He's also taught me a lot, and as a new homeowner, that's especially valuable! Thanks Chuck!

Why Us
We locate the private lines the 811 call does not mark, including the parts of a septic system, before your digging starts.

Questions
In the Hudson Valley, the 811 call goes to UDig NY. Utility companies then mark their own lines, usually to where the owner's lines begin, and gas is marked to where it enters the home. Lines the utilities do not own, such as well, septic, sprinkler, and propane lines and power to a garage or lamp post, belong to the owner, and the utilities often leave them unmarked.
UDig NY, the 811 center for the Hudson Valley, says private lines, such as sprinkler, propane, septic, and invisible dog fence lines, are the property owner's responsibility. Knowing where the septic and well lines run also helps when you book a septic system inspection or well water testing. Call 811 first, since a private locate does not replace it.
The cost depends on how many lines need finding, how far they run, and whether a line is plastic, which is harder to trace than metal. The 811 locate is free, while private locating is a paid service. You can schedule it alongside a home inspection or by itself. Get a free quote for your property.
No single method finds every line. Electronic locators follow metal pipe and cable, while plastic pipe can only be followed this way if a metal tracer wire was buried with it. Ground-penetrating radar can pick up plastic and clay pipe, though wet or clay-heavy soil weakens it. A sewer camera inspection shows the inside of a sewer line once its route is known.
UDig NY asks homeowners to call 811 before they dig. Professional excavators must call at least two and no more than ten working days ahead, not counting the day of the call, and that window is a safe plan for a homeowner too. In winter, snow can cover the marks and road salt can fade them, so ask for new marks if they disappear.
