I just had a home inspection with Chuck, and he was great. He was very thorough and explained everything clearly as he went through the house. He answered all my questions, pointed out things I wouldn't have noticed, and even offered to look up additional info afterward. He made the process easy to understand and much less stressful. I'd definitely recommend Chuck to anyone buying a home.

Chuck is great to work with. He's inspected two houses my husband and I have offered on and his report saved us from investing in a home with serious water problems in the basement, and helped us feel reassured about the second home we offered on. He's also taught me a lot, and as a new homeowner, that's especially valuable! Thanks Chuck!

Chuck is amazing! First time meeting him and it felt like you knew him forever! Replied quickly and was able to get me within short notice. Did a septic inspection for me and was very knowledgeable within the field. Would highly recommend him to anyone doing a home/septic inspection.

Chuck was amazing. Meeting him for the first time he demonstrated a great deal of knowledge with home inspections. He explained what he was looking at. What was problematic and of no concern. He took his time and was very thorough. He answered all the questions we had and made us feel comfortable throughout the whole inspection.

As first-time home buyers, we really appreciated how thorough Chuck was with our inspection. He explained everything in detail, answered all of our questions, and made the process easy to understand. He even got us scheduled the very next day after we called. Highly recommend Above Grade Home Inspections!
Warning Signs
Termites often work out of sight for years, so the first signs are easy to miss without a close look.

Questions
Look for swarms of winged insects or piles of shed wings near windows and doors, usually in spring. Mud tubes on foundation walls, posts, and sills are another sign, as is wood that sounds hollow or has soil-lined tunnels. Carpenter ants nest in damp wood, so finding them usually points to a moisture problem nearby.
We combine a close visual look at the house with infrared thermal imaging. Thermal imaging helps find damp spots and unusual warm or cool areas, the kind of conditions that can draw wood destroying organisms.
The cost depends on the size of the house and how much of it can be reached. A termite inspection can be booked on its own or added to a home inspection, as radon testing and a septic system inspection can be. Get a free quote for the home.
For VA loans in seven Hudson Valley counties, yes. VA requires a termite report, which it calls wood destroying insect information, for every property in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester counties. An FHA or conventional lender may also ask for one, especially when there are signs of damage, so ask the lender which form it needs. A termite inspection can be added to a full home inspection.
Swarms of winged termites usually appear from March through June, and Cornell Cooperative Extension says a swarm points to a well-established colony. In cold months termites favor warm spots near furnaces and chimneys, so those are good places to check first.
