I just had a home inspection with Chuck, and he was great. He was very thorough and explained everything clearly as he went through the house. He answered all my questions, pointed out things I wouldn't have noticed, and even offered to look up additional info afterward. He made the process easy to understand and much less stressful. I'd definitely recommend Chuck to anyone buying a home.

Chuck is great to work with. He's inspected two houses my husband and I have offered on and his report saved us from investing in a home with serious water problems in the basement, and helped us feel reassured about the second home we offered on. He's also taught me a lot, and as a new homeowner, that's especially valuable! Thanks Chuck!

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Common problems include sewage backing up into the house, very slow drains, standing water or soggy ground over the tank or leaching field, and bright green grass there in dry weather. Inside the tank, liquid sitting well above or below the outlet can point to a blockage or a leak. A sewer camera inspection can look at the pipe leading out of the house.

We locate and uncover the septic tank, then inspect the lids, baffles, and visible parts of the tank. A high-definition camera checks the inlet and outlet pipes, and we find and inspect the distribution box, which splits the flow out to the leaching field. We walk and probe the leaching field, the buried area where water from the tank soaks into the soil, and run a dye test. You get an easy-to-read report with photos and a grading system.

The cost depends on the size of the system, how easy the tank is to reach, and what else is booked with it. A septic inspection can be added to a home inspection or booked on its own. Get a free quote for the property.

You can watch for warning signs, but EPA says a household system should be inspected by a septic professional at least every three years. Never climb or lean into an open tank, because the gases inside can overcome a person quickly. If you are not sure where the tank is, underground utility locating can find it.

It depends on how many people live in the house. Penn State Extension's table puts a 1,000-gallon tank at about every 2.6 years for four people and about every 5.9 years for two, and EPA says most household tanks are pumped every three to five years. If you are buying, ask when the tank was last pumped, and add well water testing when the house is on a well.
