I just had a home inspection with Chuck, and he was great. He was very thorough and explained everything clearly as he went through the house. He answered all my questions, pointed out things I wouldn't have noticed, and even offered to look up additional info afterward. He made the process easy to understand and much less stressful. I'd definitely recommend Chuck to anyone buying a home.

Chuck is great to work with. He's inspected two houses my husband and I have offered on and his report saved us from investing in a home with serious water problems in the basement, and helped us feel reassured about the second home we offered on. He's also taught me a lot, and as a new homeowner, that's especially valuable! Thanks Chuck!

Chuck is amazing! First time meeting him and it felt like you knew him forever! Replied quickly and was able to get me within short notice. Did a septic inspection for me and was very knowledgeable within the field. Would highly recommend him to anyone doing a home/septic inspection.

Chuck was amazing. Meeting him for the first time he demonstrated a great deal of knowledge with home inspections. He explained what he was looking at. What was problematic and of no concern. He took his time and was very thorough. He answered all the questions we had and made us feel comfortable throughout the whole inspection.

As first-time home buyers, we really appreciated how thorough Chuck was with our inspection. He explained everything in detail, answered all of our questions, and made the process easy to understand. He even got us scheduled the very next day after we called. Highly recommend Above Grade Home Inspections!

In the Area
Part of Hopewell Junction is a federal Superfund site. A degreasing solvent called TCE, from a sheet metal parts maker that used it until 1998, got into the groundwater and private wells. EPA brought public water to the area in 2021, and the town now requires the hookup there. The groundwater is not expected to be clean until about 2071. Ask the seller whether the house is inside that area.

Questions
Home inspection, septic system inspection, radon testing, well water testing, sewer camera inspection, underground utility locating, termite inspection, and chimney inspection.
TCE in the groundwater can rise into indoor air. Some homes above the polluted groundwater have systems under the floor slab that vent the vapor outside, and the state maintains them. If the house has one, ask the seller for the state contact that handles its upkeep.
East Fishkill, the town that includes Hopewell Junction, requires a full state Part 5 test on private wells. Part 5 is the state's set of drinking water checks. A lab the state approves sends the results straight to the town. The test includes TCE, but it does not cover PFOA or PFOS, two of the forever chemicals. Ask the seller whether past results included those two.
East Fishkill runs 14 small water districts but only five sewer districts, so a home in Hopewell Junction may have town water and sewer, town water with its own septic, or its own well and septic. Ask the seller which ones the house has.
Basement radon ran high in East Fishkill in a 2007 state survey: 54% of basements tested above 4 pCi/L, the EPA's action level, and 52% in neighboring Beekman. The survey is more than ten years old, so ask the seller for the last basement reading or book a new radon test.
